Warren, MI- It was cold and wet but that didn't stop the Oakland Community College softball team from taking both games in the double header against Macomb Community College this past Saturday. The Owls cruised to a 17-1 win in 5 innings in Game 1 and a 4-1 win in Game 2. With these wins, the Owls improve to 15-17 overall and 9-5 in the conference.
Game 1 saw an offensive explosion from the Owls. The women collected 17 runs on 19 hits, with 9 players accounting for RBI's including 4 each from Sophomores Carly McCulloch and Makayla Lezotte. McCulloch as well as Sophomore Olivia Black both contributed with homeruns as well.
Freshman Katelynn Perry dominated both on the mound and at the plate for the Owls. Perry pitched all 5 innings while only giving up 4 hits and 1 run on the day. At the plate, she was a homerun shy of the cycle as she went 3-5 with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored.
Game 2 saw more dominance in the circle as this time Freshman Elyssa Frezza toed the rubber and had one of her best outings on the year. Frezza went the distance against the Monarchs as she picked up the complete game win with 7 innings of 4 hit ball while only allowing 1 run, 1 walk, and striking out 2.
Perry and McCulloch stayed hot in Game 2 on offense as they both contributed with RBI's and doubles in the contest to help secure the double header sweep.
The Owls will be back on the diamond on Friday when they visit conference opponent St. Clair for a double header. First pitch will be at 3pm.
