Auburn Hills, MI- The regular season is winding down but the Oakland Community College softball team is heating up. With the postseason approaching, the Owls went 3-1 this past weekend with a win against St. Clair and 2 wins against Macomb. With one week left in the regular season, the Owls currently hold a record of 22-22, and a conference record of 16-10 which puts them firmly in second place in the MCCAA East.
The Owls split the double header against the Skippers on Friday, losing game one 6-0, but then coming back in game 2 to win 9-0. Freshman Katelynn Perry struggled on the mound in Game 1 as she tossed 6 innings while giving up 9 hits, 6 runs, 4 of which were earned, and struck out 2. Game 2 the Owls found their groove with the bats and in the circle. Freshman Elyssa Frezza threw a complete game shutout for the Owls, giving up 6 hits and striking out 4 in the process. Perry contributed 3 RBI's in the contest along with Sophomore Bella Asai.
Saturday's Sophomore Day matchup against Macomb went as well as it could've gone for the Owls as they swept the double header with an 8-6 win in Game 1, and a 10-2 win in 5 innings in Game 2. In Game 1, five Owls contributed with RBI's including 2 from Perry who had a 2 Run Home Run in the contest. Game 2 got off to a hot start as the Owls quickly jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and it was smooth sailing after that. Frezza pitched another complete game, this time only give up 1 hit over 5 innings and allowing 2 runs while striking out 4. Six Owls contributed with RBI's, including 3 from Freshman Liz Pugh, who had a double and triple in Game 2.
The Owls wrap up the non-conference schedule today as they take on Lansing Community College, and will conclude the regular season schedule this weekend as the Owls face off against Mott on Friday at 3pm, and Schoolcraft on Saturday at 1pm.
